My first job was to create MeteoGalicia. For 13 years I worked as operational forecaster, designing web pages, managing databases and researching with meteorological models (Medex) among many other things. After a year and a half, TVG (Galician public television) decided to count on me to present and develop weather information of the channel. I was with them for 10 years.
In 2012 I decided to create my own company meteorology in collaboration with 3 other fellows. Thus it was born 4gotas atmosfera y oceano SL.
From the beginning I found interesting mixing my two professional experiences: create a hybrid of a mass media (imitating their prescriptive and divulgative strategies) and combine it with the benefits of the meteorological center (its high degree of technicality and efficiency). The strategy was very clear: if until recently was ideal to refine the weather forecast, competitive advantage now is focused on the personalization of information, in being able to adapt and respond to their users needs.So we extended the traditional workspace of meteorology combining it with other disciplines such as health, fashion, tourism, viticulture, ... creating services / original and functional products. Examples of this philosophy are the free apps Whatoweather (outfits adapted to the weather forecast) or AQuePlaya (the closest beach of your dreams), or the web module "La Fabrica" (your best moment to put a washing machine, to go to run…) or our biometeorological forecast. In the communication field, the interactive video blog of "1 gota de nube" is the perfect example to find out how the weather is much more important than you think ...
Now is not enough working with personalized information; you have to anticipate customer needs. Understand their behavior and therefore work with Big Data becomes a must.
